Karen Mills Biography

Homegrown designer Karen Mills, often dubbed by fans as the Martha Stewart of Kansas City,  is the force behind Living Large, the luxury design and lifestyle show  broadcast on the Entercom Radio Network.  Mills, who believes everyone should have access to fabulous design, inspires people worldwide through her broadcast radio show, internet TV show, speaking engagements, nationally published articles and design blog.  An artist at heart, Mills also designs furniture, home decor, jewelry and works of art.

Karen Mills’ ground breaking approach to design, widely covered by the media, led to a co-production deal with Entercom Broadcasting in 2005 for the first design and lifestyle show on radio called Living Large, a show regularly featuring celebrity guests like Kathy Ireland, HGTV personalities and top designers worldwide who share their secrets to creating beautiful spaces and cutting edge design.

Besides hosting Living Large, Karen Mills was also recruited to be the face of the internet TV network World Goin Green along with hosting their design show called Living Green with Karen Mills.

Mills served as design chair for the 2010 Symphony Designers' Showhouse that won the National Award of Excellence and her design firm was nominated in 2009, 2008 and 2007 for Kansas City’s Small Business of the Year.  She also designed the first museum deaf living environment in the U.S., was the first designer in Kansas City to be invited to the exclusive “Kohler Experience” at the Kohler Design Center and designed the entire 2008 KMBC TV 9 Concept Home.

Her commitment to the communities where she designs is clear. Besides volunteering for the symphony, she's also been marketing director for Team Impact, an international anti-drug and alcohol youth program officially recognized by the State of Kansas (after she secured the endorsement from the Governor and the Mayor), plus she’s on the city’s Sustainability Task Force, the liaison committee for the local chamber of commerce, and regularly emcees charity events throughout the year.

Mills graduated from the University of Kansas where she studied Interior Design and Radio/Television/Film.
